Data -> Information -> Knowledge -> Wisdom

Moving from raw data to wisdom is a progression from the “external” existence of data to the “internal” assimilation and contextualizing of data and information into actionable insights and decision-making.

Should you start with identifying the decisions that need to be made and pursue the data, information, and knowledge needed to make those decisions?  Or start with the available data to determine what insights and wisdom can be gleaned from this data?  Or iterate on both approaches?

Determining the technological and communication platforms needed to support your organization’s mission and goals requires thoughtful consideration of these questions.
