Building a plan and strategy to achieve some desired goal or outcome distracts us from the present and gives us a false sense of security in the “planned for” outcome. In my experience, the Holy Spirit has a beautiful and frustrating way of providing insight into God’s will for me only for today. Planning for the future, as prudent as it may seem, has an insidious way of convincing us we are in control and can rely on ourselves, our efforts, our businesses, or some other temporal good to achieve our desires. Daily prayer then gets in the way of the efficient pursuit of these plans. And yet, it is in opening up our hearts and minds each day to the inspirations of the Holy Spirit where the incalculable value of God’s will is revealed to us.
Be careful what you “plan” for, because you will likely achieve it…and miss out on the greatest purpose and adventure of your life.
“Do not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself. Sufficient for a day is its own evil.” (MT 6:34)
“Give us each day our daily bread” (LK 11:3)
